A Brief History of the XTH Gene Family

چکیده
Prehistory It is possible to trace the history of studies on cell walls back to the time of Nehemiah Grew, who dissected plant organs and tissues, under both the naked eye and a microscope, and exhibited his observations to the Royal Society of London from May 15, 1672 to April 2, 1674 (Grew 1682). He described plant organs as being composed of cells in the same way that a tower is constructed with various types of bricks. Furthermore, he disclosed that individual cells are characterized by their respective structures, which are now termed cell walls.

Structure-function analysis of a broad specificity Populus trichocarpa endo-β-glucanase reveals an evolutionary link between bacterial licheninases and plant XTH gene products.
The large xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolase (XTH) gene family continues to be the focus of much attention in studies of plant cell wall morphogenesis due to the unique catalytic functions of the enzymes it encodes. The XTH gene products compose a subfamily of glycoside hydrolase family 16 (GH16), which also comprises a broad range of microbial endoglucanases and endogalactanases, as wel...

This comprehensive overview of the xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) family of genes and proteins in bryophytes, based on research using genomic resources that are newly available for the moss Physcomitrella patens, provides new insights into plant evolution. In angiosperms, the XTH genes are found in large multi-gene families, probably reflecting the diverse roles of individual X...

There are many well-established factors that influence the risk of stroke including blood pressure, diabetes, low socioeconomic status and smoking, however, the shared genetic resource in members of a family effect on stroke predisposition. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have demonstrated evidence of a shared genetic source in stroke risk. This review considered the influence of family...
متن کاملThe XTH family of enzymes involved in xyloglucan endotransglucosylation and endohydrolysis: current perspectives and a new unifying nomenclature.
The polysaccharide xyloglucan is thought to play an important structural role in the primary cell wall of dicotyledons. Accordingly, there is considerable interest in understanding the biochemical basis and regulation of xyloglucan metabolism, and research over the last 16 years has identified a large family of cell wall proteins that specifically catalyze xyloglucan endohydrolysis and/or endot...
متن کاملTwo azuki bean XTH genes, VaXTH1 and VaXTH2, with similar tissue-specific expression profiles, are differently regulated by auxin.
To gain insight into the functional diversity of the XTH (xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase) gene family, we analyzed the expression profiles of two azuki bean genes, VaXTH1 and VaXTH2, which share a striking resemblance in their amino acid sequences. The two XTH genes exhibit essentially similar tissue-specific expression profiles, in that both mRNAs are found predominantly in the phlo...
